"October 16th" is one of the few films which examines the affect of the war in Iraq on African Americans. Independent filmmaker Keith Robinson,www.Orangepealmedia.org, discusses his award-winning film as well as the issues confronting independent filmmakers today on DMBF Radio, Wed. 2/18 at 7 pm. In addition, there will be a free screening of "October 16th" on Wed. 2/25 at 12:30 pm at Nassau Community College, the College Center Multipurpose Room, One Education Drive, Garden City, NY 11553.
BIRTH
From the foundation of all of God’s boundless creation,
you were a spirit dwelling in ethereal recreation.
In the power granted to you through freedom of choice,
you elected to come forth to exhibit your voice.
The whole of your life is to allow you to see,
it is also to decide who you want to be.
Once you had selected your own temporal existence,
it was through four hundred millions sperm that you alone persisted.
In the confinement of a cell in your mother’s womb,
you searched for the nucleus to build your tomb.
Through infinitesimal darkness you achieved conception,
realizing this was your funeral and not your reception.
With only the existence of a subconscious mind,
you now realized what you had left behind.
You were still in the place where you could abort,
but you chose to endure this new found port.
You began to evolve into an earthly formation,
not understanding your newly found habitation.
As you formed and developed within that watery grave,
you found your first reason for Jesus to save.
When the fullness of time had reached its duration,
you traveled through a gateway to a new sensation.
The strength of the vessel that had transported you,
endured tremendous pain and pushed you through.
When you entered this realm you began to cry,
for you knew that then you were predestined to die.
