This is an outstanding idea. I have a daughter who is only 8, but her friends were beginning to clash in ways we as women sometimes do. The parents of these girls decided to help them bond in a positive way, so we have created our own book club. We don't have a name or anything, but we meet for 3 or four hours. The girls choose the book, the parents plan non stop acitivites centered around the book, including strong recall, comprehension and vocabulary. Away from the pure academic side of things, I am so pleased how this has begun to influence their self esteem and problem solving skills in social situations. These types of situations come up in conversation, but we get to address it in a safe group. I can only imagine the in-depth discoveries that can be made at the high school level!
