I would like to enter this contest. When I started my business, I did not know all the hard work and time that goes along with it. I thought it will be as easy as getting business cards, getting a website and watching the business take off. Boy, was I wrong. I'm learning from my mistakes because the saying goes, "When you know better, you do better." I know that I would benefit from the book since I'm in the process of restarting my business all over again. I'm always seeking to learn more so I can do better. This book will be a great tool to not only my business, but to me as well.

I would like to enter this contest! My business is in the conceptual stage. I love to design and create things, and for the last five years in job positions and for family and friends I have been designing and creating business cards, flyers, greeting cards, invitations, church bulletins and programs, forms, and other documents. This is the business I would like to have. I have a general plan in mind, but I need to nail down specifics.

My start up story is really kind of funny and maybe many will be able to relate. For years I have been in Corporate America, never really satisfied, always knowing that there was something else I was destined to do. I am a strong Black Christian MOM, who has always been very BOLD in my approach to things and have always gotten along well with the various positions I held, but still, never satisfied. God kept telling me that I needed to be in a position to help people, especially young people. And I always brushed it off, although when I volunteered at various non-profits, I always felt more complete. Well, I was working at a very large IT Firm, with a very "Cushion" job, but miserable....I kept complaining to God that I couldn't stand working there and needed a change and He kept telling me to make a move. Well after several years of complaining and not listening to God, He decided to take matters into His hands (as we all know God does OFTEN) and I was laid off. At that moment I decided I could either wallow in self pity and try to find another corporate job that I would undoubtedly be MISERABLE in or tighten my belt and venture out into my own business. The most important thing I ultimately decided was that I needed to continue being a positive role model for my son and show him that sometimes one door closes and another door opens. WE always preach that to our children, and now it was my opportunity to lead by example and SHOW my son. Well that was December 2007 and this year has been the most CHALLENGING and MOST REWARDING all at the same time! STRATEGIES was created to help the community empower themselves in areas such as financial literacy, goal development, and business planning. We have expanded with our youth program and are gaining momentum in the Raleigh/Triangle area...it is wonderful! And I Give God all the Glory for KICKIN my butt when I needed it!

My start up story is full of passion, hard work, and a sense of satisfaction as I've transformed my love for stationery and all things "cute" to a phenomenal business that provides multicultural stationery, invitations, and gifts. After 2 years in business, we're expanding with a new comprehensive website and introducing business opportunities for party planners, moms, and/or paper lovers.

LaShanda's Website/Networks & Kimberly and her first book was/has been a personal inspiration for me so I'm excited to be considered.

Well you know how you want to start your own business and you put it off over and over because you think that the time wasn't right? that's me now I know time is of the essence, and time won't wait! not even for me. so a friend and I are gathering the necessary information to start a Health care agency. something I've been wanting to do for a couple of years. also I am working on my web site and it will be up and running in a couple of weeks it's called Pariche1 Health Information and the site address is pariche1.com.
What I want to say to those who want to start up their own business is don't put it off and when the saying goes step out on faith" that is what you must do.and thank you Kimberly and those like you who have resources and knowledge to help others like myself who are venturing into the world of owning you own business.

Thank You Kimberley Bowman of Cleveland Heights,Ohio
