Black Business Women Online

A Social Network for Black Business Women and Women Entrepreneurs

As I talk to people on a daily basis, I find that Black women are less likely to change as far as what they use in their homes and on their bodies and the bodies of their children. This is only the African American women that I have talked too. I know we love our children and ourselves, so I want to know what are the reason that others are more willing to go green than we are? I just want some help understanding. I mean we protect our children from so many things. We take measures to protect ourselves as well, with the number of illnesses destroying the lives of black women it's a must. We even try to protect them and ourselves from hell by raising them to believe in God and love Him, and us doing the same. Why wouldn't we want to take measures to keep them safe here and now? I look forward to reading your responses, and thank you for your input.

Hi LaTresha and what an interesting question. I became aware of making changes when I read the back of a bottle of baby lotion and realized how much chemicals I was putting on my baby's skin at such a young age. This is why I decided to create my own bath and body products using as little man made chemicals as possible. Of course, I do use fragrance oils, but that's the extent of man made chemicals in my products.

In my home, I also try to just use orange, lemon and lavender essential oils in my cleaning, but for the real hardcore stuff, I must admit I do use my bleach. However a bit of bleach is much better than bleach combined with all the other cleaning chemicals they have out there on the market. I'm trying in my small way to "green up" my house and home.

Thank you for replying. I got rid of my baby shampoo because it has a formaldehyde releaser in it called Quanternium 15. I am converting my entire house! I don't use bleach at all. I barely used it before because it would give me migraines! I am building an at home business helping others "green up" their homes and lives! It's so important especially for black women. Our health and safety depend on it!
